Omonia’s oldest and staple location, the Omonia Café in Astoria has been open since 1977, when John Arvanitis immigrated from Greece to NYC at just 19 years old. John had a vision of bringing to Astoria something it didn’t have to offer, and what he left behind in Greece; thus opening up the European style Omonia Café.
In Europe, cafés are the largest meeting spots for people, a place where one felt comfortable, and more importantly, felt like home. With this vision, John opened up Omonia Café, which has since become a landmark in Astoria and a renowned restaurant and bakery.
People travel worldwide to buy Omonia’s famous pastries and savor a flavor of the homemade sweets and desserts that are so hard to find in our commercial age.
